Crossing chronic vascular occlusions remains a major clinical challenge.
Chronic total occlusions can be difficult or impossible to cross, particularly when lesions are long, resistant or complex. Successful guidewire crossing is the critical first step in endovascular recanalization. When the occlusion cannot be crossed, revascularization cannot proceed.
CURRENT APPROACH
Complex procedures requiring extensive resources and expertise
Current CTO procedures rely on highly specialized guidewires, multiple devices and advanced crossing strategies. They can be lengthy, resource-intensive and costly, with a significant risk of complications. Their technical complexity also limits these procedures to a relatively small number of highly experienced operators and specialized centers.
PRECLINICAL VALIDATION
Beyond proof of concept
This new wire has moved beyond proof of concept. Comparative ex-vivo testing demonstrated superior crossing performance versus conventional CTO guidewires. In-vivo testing subsequently confirmed the ability of the active guidewire to successfully cross challenging chronic vascular occlusions in a preclinical model.Together, these results provide strong preclinical validation of the active guidewire concept and support its progression toward clinical translation.
